Terms of use

Reedr is a place to keep a record of your reading: a shelf you can see, ratings and notes that stay yours, and recommendations built from what you have read. It is operated by Melusi Ndoro in the United Kingdom and is available at reedr.co and as an iPhone app.

You need an account, you must be at least 13, and the details you give should be accurate. Keep your password to yourself: anything done through your account is treated as done by you.

You can delete your account whenever you like, from Settings. It takes effect immediately and cannot be reversed.

Your books, ratings, notes, quotes and pictures belong to you. Reedr does not claim ownership of any of it.

To be able to show it back to you, Reedr needs your permission to store, copy and display it, and if you choose to make a shelf or a profile public, to show that part of it to whoever has the link. That permission covers nothing else, and it ends when you delete the content or the account.

• Upload anything unlawful, or anything you have no right to upload.
• Harass another reader, or use a public profile to target someone.
• Scrape, bulk-download or resell other people’s shelves or profile data.
• Attack the service, work around its limits, or try to reach data that is not yours.
• Use someone else’s account, or let someone else use yours.

Accounts that do these things can be suspended or removed. Where it is reasonable to warn you first, we will.

Titles, authors, covers and descriptions come from Google Books and Open Library. They are other people’s catalogues, they contain mistakes, and Reedr cannot promise any of it is right. Cover images belong to their publishers and are shown for identification.

Recommendations are generated by a language model. They are suggestions from a machine that has read your shelf, nothing more, and they will sometimes be wrong or strange.

Reedr is free to use. Plus unlocks the extras, and on the web it costs £4.99 a month or £39.99 a year. A Founding Reader plan at £29.99 a year is offered while it lasts, and that price stays fixed for as long as the subscription runs without a break. New subscriptions start with a 7-day free trial.

Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time and Plus continues to the end of the period you have paid for; part-months are not refunded, except where consumer law says otherwise. Payment is handled by Stripe under their terms.

On the iPhone app, Plus features are currently free. This is a launch decision, not a permanent one, and it may end with reasonable notice. Nothing about it changes a subscription you already pay for elsewhere.

Prices can change. If they do, you will be told before it affects a renewal, and you can cancel instead.

Reedr is a small operation and there is no uptime guarantee. Features can change, and occasionally one can be removed. If something is going away that you rely on, you will be told, and the export in Settings means your reading record is never trapped here.

Reedr is provided as it is. Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under UK law, and nothing limits responsibility for death, personal injury or fraud.

Beyond that, Reedr is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and total liability for any claim is limited to what you have paid in the twelve months before it. Keep your own copy of anything you would hate to lose; the export exists for that.

These terms can change. The date at the top moves when they do, and anything significant will be told to you in the app or by email. Carrying on using Reedr afterwards means accepting the new version.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction.
